Where the lights are on

Six cities that keep a bill running all week long.

Paris keeps four grand houses on the same boulevard. Phuket and Pattaya built whole theatres around the ladyboy revue. Bangkok runs a dinner-and-show circuit, Vegas stacks variety bills along the Strip, and Berlin never really stopped doing Weimar.

Tonight in Thailand

Phuket, Pattaya or Bangkok: three islands of sequins, three different evenings.

Thailand has more cabaret seats than anywhere else on this site, and the three towns do not do the same night. What each one costs to walk into, and what you get for it.

The Paris houses

Four grand rooms in Paris, and they are not interchangeable.

The Moulin Rouge sells the finale and the history. Paradis Latin is smaller and older, Crazy Horse is a lighting show with almost no costume, and La Nouvelle Eve still runs a proper dinner service. Pick the room first, then the sitting.

Every Paris show
Dinner and a show

The seats that come with a table, and whether the food is worth sitting down for.

A dinner ticket doubles the price of most shows on this site. Sometimes it buys a three-course service and the best sightlines in the room; sometimes it buys a set menu you eat facing a wall. These are the ones that earn it.

What a seat costs

A cabaret seat runs from the price of a drink to the price of a flight.

Every show on the site, grouped by what the cheapest ticket costs. The Asian revues sit at the bottom, the Paris dinner services at the top, and a lot of very good nights land in the middle.

Under $50

Admission tickets to the Asian revues, Liverpool drag brunches and most of the Vegas variety bills.

$50–150

Show-only seats in Paris and Berlin, the Pattaya VIP rows, and dinner at the smaller houses.

$150 and up

Moulin Rouge dinner service, Paradis Latin with wine, and the Seine cruise packages that run half the evening.

Before you book a seat

Four things a cabaret ticket does not tell you until you are standing at the door.

Shows sell one ticket and several very different evenings. Seat tier, dress code, whether dinner is a service or a tray, and how you get home afterwards are all decided at checkout, not at the theatre.

  1. 01Moulin Rouge Cabaret Show Ticket with ChampagneThe Paris houses run two sittings a night and price them differently. The early one is cheaper and calmer; the late one is the full room.
  2. 02Simon Cabaret Show Admission Ticket with TransferPatong theatres sit a long way from most hotels. The transfer version costs a few dollars more and removes the only hard part of the evening.
  3. 03Alcazar Cabaret Discounted Admission TicketSeat tiers are real here, not upselling. The front rows see the choreography; the back of a thousand-seat house sees a light show.
  4. 043-Course Dinner & Show at Paradis Latin CabaretA dinner ticket is a fixed service with a fixed start, usually ninety minutes before the curtain. Arrive late and you are eating through the overture.
Know what you booked

Three kinds of show that get sold under the same word.

Cabaret covers a Thai revue with forty dancers, a burlesque act working one table at a time and a drag host with a microphone. The ticket rarely says which.

Thailand

The ladyboy revue

Big stages, taped vocals and a cast of dozens working through country-by-country numbers: a Bollywood set, a Korean set, a Vegas set, a Thai classical finale. Simon in Phuket and Alcazar in Pattaya have run this format for decades. Shows are an hour, photographs with the cast afterwards cost extra, and the tip is expected rather than optional.

Berlin, London, Vegas

Burlesque

Closer to a variety bill than a striptease, and the good rooms are small. Acts work solo, the comedy is part of the act, and the audience is close enough to be spoken to. Vegas plays it broad and theatrical at the casino resorts; Berlin and London keep it in basements and supper clubs where the table service matters as much as the stage.

Liverpool to Canggu

Drag

A host, a microphone and a running order that bends to the room. Brunches and dinner sittings dominate, which means the ticket usually includes food and a long afternoon rather than a curtain time. Expect audience participation, and expect the show to run late if the crowd is good.
